Her research article, ā€œMobile Device Use and Effects on Literacy Among 4- and 5-Year-Olds,ā€ was published in Literacy Matters, the journal of the Palmetto State Literacy Association. The work grew out of her education capstone and was also presented at the 2024 S.C. Upstate Research Symposium.

Pruitt gained classroom experience teaching kindergarten and is now exploring graduate school options in special education. She is considering paths in speech-language pathology or occupational therapy while working as an assistant manager at a local coffee shop and shadowing professionals in both fields.

A recent financial literacy workshop on budgeting, facilitated by certified financial
planners from Founders Federal Credit Union, gave Ļć½¶Šć students a preview of the real
world when it comes to setting budgets and saving money.

Each attendee at the Mad City Money simulation was assigned an occupation, salary, spouse, student loan debt,
credit card debt, and medical insurance payments and were lead through a budget
exercise to plan accordingly. They selected housing, transportation, meals,
entertainment, and personal care expenses to see if total expected expenses exceeded
net income or if they had enough money to save and invest.

Participants gained valuable life-long skills to make informed financial decisions and
develop good habits that support their financial well-being now and after graduation.

This program was coordinated by Athletics and the office of Career & Professional
Development. Foundersā€™ involvement in the community spans across many diverse needs
and includes delivering free educational sessions on financial topics like Mad City Money.

ā€œTheir programming is accessible and conversational and not at all intimidating, so
students are better prepared for future money managementā€, says career director, Kim
Lane.

Foundersā€™ representatives are available to speak to classes or student organizations
about additional topics including investing, credit building and more.

The organization was formed this year with the merger of the S.C. Chamber of Commerce and the S.C. Manufacturers Alliance. Sara served the latter as president and CEO from 2018-25.

Sara also serves her alma mater as a member of the Ļć½¶Šć Board of Trustees.
