Ļć½¶Šć Bachelor’s Degrees More Accessible for Transfer Students

by Kim Mizar

Beginning in the summer of 2016, Ļć½¶Šć University bachelor’s degrees will be more accessible to students transferring from two-year colleges.

Students who hold Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degrees will have mostly met their general education requirements. Biblical Literature or World Religions and a Service Learning course must be completed while matriculated at Ļć½¶Šć.

In addition, some Ļć½¶Šć degree programs may have minimal requirements for certain courses outside the major requirements. ā€œDue to the cultural shift in higher education that has been influenced by economic downturns, more students are matriculating at junior colleges before transferring to four-year colleges. It is important to respect the completed degrees that these students bring with themā€, said Interim Provost Kent Buchanan.

This policy streamlines the school-by-school articulation agreements that Ļć½¶Šć has in place or has in the works with local junior colleges. ā€œWe will continue to provide all students with a strong liberal arts education and ensure that certain Ļć½¶Šć-specific core requirements remain as a vehicle for engagement with the unique features of our campus culture and relationship with the broader communityā€, said Buchanan.
