Catch the ā€˜Cube of Light’ before it vanishes

The final multimedia performance of the ā€œCube of Lightā€ immersive art experience will delve into the intersection of light, sound, perception and space.

Ļć½¶Šć University’s art gallery will host the performance, titled ā€œDolby Atmos Album Experience,ā€ from 5-7 p.m. Nov. 13.

Drawing musical inspiration from modern classical traditions as well as influences such as Daft Punk, Muse, Animal Collective and the ā€œStranger Thingsā€ soundtrack, the album experience invites audiences to slow down, look closer, and experience light and sound in a whole new way.

ā€œCube of Lightā€ is a post-classical visual album created by Christina Giacona and Patrick Conlon of . Its centerpiece is  ā€œ1 m³ light, 1999,ā€ an installation composed of halogen lamps, steel stands and a fog machine that transforms light into a tangible art object. Eliasson, globally recognized for his explorations of art’s relevance, challenges viewers to engage with their perception of space and environment.

ā€œ1 m³ light, 1999ā€ is on loan from the Christian Keesee Charitable Trust.

The exhibit, open through Nov. 20, is complemented by the haunting images of contemporary artist  ā€œGhost, 2022–2023ā€ series. These platinum prints reveal faint traces of forgotten photographs on the backs of old pictures — a side effect of the platinum photography process. Mattern’s meticulous re-photographing and re-printing of these apparitions breathe new life into old works, highlighting the medium’s self-reproducing nature.

Ļć½¶Šć’s Hulsey Art Gallery is in the Norick Art Center at 1608 NW 26th St. Admission is free and hours are 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. For more information visit okcu.edu/artgallery.
