OKLAHOMA CITY ā The Letās Talk About It, Oklahoma book discussion series at Ļć½¶Šć University will continue with āThis Is Where I Leave Youā by Jonathan Tropper at 7 p.m. Feb. 10 in Walker Center room 151.
In Tropperās book, the death of a father brings together the entire family clan for the first time in years. Long-standing grudges resurface, secrets are revealed and old passions are reawakened in this humorous novel about the ties that bind, whether we like it or not.
The discussion series is made possible through a grant from the Oklahoma Humanities Council. At each session in the five-part series, a humanities scholar makes a presentation on the book in the context of the theme. Small group discussions follow with experienced discussion leaders. At the end, all participants come together for a brief wrap-up.
Those who are interested in participating are encouraged to preregister and borrow the reading selections and theme brochure by calling Harbour Winn at (405) 208-5472, emailing him at [email protected] or dropping by the Dulaney-Browne Library room 211 or 207.
Winn, director of the Center for Interpersonal Study through Film & Literature at Ļć½¶Šć, said the series, titled āThe Dynamics of Dysfunction: To Laugh or Cry or Both,ā is focusing on dysfunctional family relationships.
āMany great works of literature since time immemorial have explored issues of relationship problems within the family unit,ā he said. āLook no further than the tortured families of Joseph with that colorful coat or Noah after the flood in the Old Testament. William Shakespeare, too, penned a couple of dramas featuring some rather unbalanced families.ā
Other dates and books in the series include:
* Feb. 24 with āMy Last Days as Roy Rogersā by Pat Cunningham Devoto
* March 10 with āThe Sleepy Hollow Family Almanacā by Kris DāAgostino
